Govt rest houses earn more after new check-in, check-out timings

Kochi: Kerala Public Works Department rest houses recorded a hike in income after check-in and check-out timings were regularised, said minister Mohammed Riyas on Thursday.

In the four months since the change, the department's rest houses earned Rs 2.25 cr. Last year, the total income was Rs 4 crore. Since online booking started, the rest houses clocked Rs 6 cr, the minister said.

Thiruvananthapuram Thaikkad Rest House has generated an income of Rs 3,75,176 so far till March 2023 when compared to Rs 1,93,851 last year. Rs 1,06,534 was also received at Kozhikode Rest House during the same period when compared to Rs 58,526 received the previous year.

Government rest houses opened to the public on November 1, 2021. Later, online booking was made available in more than 140 rest houses across the state. Check-in is 12 pm and check-out time is 11 am.
