Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that some people returning to Kerala in long distance trains are cheating the COVID-19 monitoring system in the state.
In reality, these people are not cheating the system but their brothers and sisters, the CM said while speaking to the media here after a coronavirus review meeting.
There had been incidents where some persons who returned to the state in trains, got down at railway stations and stayed there before boarding another train to their native places. They are escaping the medical personnel. Police have found that some people, who returned to Kollam from Ernakulam, had returned to the state from outside in long distance trains.
Such actions will have serious implications. If one of them has coronavirus, the entire society will pay for it. Such actions must be avoided at any coast, the CM said.
Citing an example, the CM said, “A Pathanamthitta native woman, who had returned from Bengaluru, sought treatment at a hospital hiding the fact that she had returned from outside the state. She then underwent a surgery. Later, when the hospital authorities came to know about her travel history, the entire facility was in jeopardy.”
Despite being well educated, such actions will adversely affect the society in its cautious approach, the CM said. Experts are of the opinion that the virus will not be eradicated anytime soon. We cannot say when its spread will decrease, he added.
So far, 2,19,492 persons have returned to Kerala from outside the state. Among them, 38,871 (17.71 percent) came from abroad while 1,80,621 (82.21 percent) came from other states. Out of those who came from other states, 63.33 percent returned from Red Zones, the CM added.
