People refuse to hospitalise accident victims fearing they would be quarantined
Charummoodu (Alappuzha): Complaints are arising that the people are hesitating to help accident victims fearing they would be put in quarantine. Two bikes collided near Chunakkara Junction on Kollam-Theni national highway on Sunday.
The riders on both bikes were thrown to the road under the impact of collision. However, none of the passersby took initiative to hospitalise them and merely watched the victims lie on the road.
A few days ago, the locals had hospitalised some people who were injured in an accident here. After this, the police quarantined those who rescued the victims and hospitalised them. It is learnt that the locals hesitated to help the accident victims fearing they too will be quarantined just as in the earlier incident.
The injured in the bike collision were hospitalised after police reached the spot. The police officers arrived only after 30 minutes as they were on duty in the containment zone.
Chunakkara native Aravindakshan Nair (40) who sustained severe injuries in the mishap was first admitted in a private hospital in Thiruvalla and then to Kottayam medical college.
