Thrissur: The reports coming out of the Pambady Nehru Engineering College a day after violent protests by students are not so palatable for the college management.

Many students and former students have come out in the open against the ‘bizarre and unjust’ rules followed by the college authorities in the name of discipline.

They said the authorities used to silence any voice of protest raised by students through mental and physical torture. They further alleged that there is a “torture room” in the college which is under the supervision of College Vice Principal and this room was used to beat up the pupil who ‘erred’.

Apart from this, there are penalties for growing beards, forgetting to wear tag, late coming, cutting a cake for celebrations etc, students allege. It is also alleged that if they question such exploitations, they will be punished by cutting internal marks or not allowing to attend the exams.

Some former students said though the college attracted students by promising cent per cent placement, there are courses in which none had gained placements after the studies. Though students want to open up against the unjust rules being implemented in the college, they still fear that the college management will target them once the mayhem over the incident dies down.

Protest marches, against the suicide of college student Jishnu Pranoy, were held by various student unions to the college yesterday. The march turned violent and students vandalised the college by destroying several equipment and glass windows etc.

A list of penalties imposed on students at the college have been doing rounds in WhatsApp. This includes Rs 100 for talking in Malayalam, Rs 200 for growing beard, Rs 200 for late coming and Rs 500 if you forget college ID card.
