Pelting stones at Yesudas, Chithra: Abdul Azeez 6th accused; was hiding from police

Kozhikode: NV Abdul Azeez (56), who was arrested by the police for allegedly pelting stones at singers KJ Yesudas and KS Chithra 24 years ago, is the sixth accused in the case. The incident took place on 7 February, 1999 amid Malabar festival celebrations at Kozhikode beach.

The case is that 1,500 people gathered in front of a hostel on the beach at 9 pm while the music event was underway and attacked people. Several people broke the barricades put on by the police and tried to enter the gallery where women and children were sitting. Police stopped them by force. One group became violent in the meantime and pelted stones at the police. The audience was also pelted with stones.

A case was registered for obstructing the police during duty and the missing wireless set during the clash. A total of 12 people were tried in the case and the court sentenced them.

Azeez did not appear before the court during trial. He was hiding from police and the court and was staying at different addresses. Azeez was nabbed by a team of policemen, led by Nadakkavu inspector PK Jijeesh.
