Pathanamthitta: A woman of Ozhukupara here on Monday succumbed to her injuries from a revenge attack by 15-member gang, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sujatha (55). She died while undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College.

The woman was attacked on Sunday night allegedly as revenge on her sons Chandralal and Sooryalal. Their neighbours Sharan and Sandhya had some issues over a road dispute. On Saturday, Sharan and Sandhya quarreled. Both Chandralal and Sooryalal reached the spot with a dog and supported Sandhya. During the spat, the dog attacked the group.

According to police, retaliation for the episode happened on Sunday. A 15-member gang masking their faces in bath towels barged into the house where Sujatha along with sons Chandralal and Sooryalal live. However, only Sujatha was at the home. The gang attacked Sujatha with sticks and stones. She suffered blows to the face, head and spine. The gang also vandalised household items and even threw a cot inside the house into the well.

She was rushed to the hospital and had been on ventilator support. Her condition worsened and died by Monday morning. Meanwhile, police have intensified the probe over the matter.
