Seethathode: A resident of Karikayam in Pathanamthitta narrowly escaped a tiger attack as he spotted the big cat on his veranda in the wee hours of Monday. The incident has petrified the people residing in the locality.

Somarajan found the tiger lying on his veranda when he was returning from the toilet outside his house. Terrified by the sight, he screamed and the tiger fled the scene.

The presence of a tiger was found for the first time in the region, where people reside densely. The officials of the forest department have confirmed the presence of a tiger here. Two months ago, a tiger was spotted twice near the police camp in Maniyar, which is only 9 kilometres away from Karikayam. Following this, police had intensified patrolling in the Maniyar region.

Police have directed the public to halt rubber tapping works for a week. The attacks of tiger, leopard, boars and bisons have reportedly increased in the high ranges of the southern districts.
