Numa Mol, Collector Divya S Iyer with Numa's mother

Pathanamthitta: District collector Divya S Iyer visited Kummannoor to meet the mother of the two-and-a-half-year-old child who died in a mudslide. The Collector met Nadira who lost her daughter Numa Mol in a disaster that hit Peravoor in Kannur.

When Nadira shared her grief with the collector and talked about her daughter and the catastrophe which claimed her life, the collector also could not hold back her tears. Collector Divya returned only after consoling Nadira.

Numa died on Monday night when water rushed unexpectedly to the quarters of the health department, where the family was residing, following a mudslide in Kanichar. Nadira took the child and went outside but lost the baby after falling in the water. Nadira, who got trapped in the current, escaped by getting a grip on a coconut tree. Numa’s body was retrieved on Tuesday 2.30 am, 50 metres away from the quarters.
