Chennai: All passenger trains except one under the Thiruvananthapuram division have resumed services after a period of two years. Meanwhile, the railway has cancelled Kayankulam - Ernakulam passenger train due to limited number of footfalls.

Earlier, the railway had briefly restarted passenger trains that conducted services before the country went on lockdown in 2020. However, the passenger trains now conduct services by functioning as Express trains. Additionally, the railway is planning to introduce more express trains on busy routes.
