Thiruvananthapuram: A female presiding officer was removed from duty after she entered the polling booth wearing a mask bearing a party symbol. The incident took place in booth 1 at Johns cashew factory in Kottankara district panchayat in Mukhathala block in Kollam.

The presiding officer entered the polling booth wearing a mask bearing the hammer, sickle and star symbol. On seeing this, the BJP and Congress activists raised objections. They also handed over a complaint to the district Collector.

The Collector removed the presiding officer from duty and handed over her duties to another officer. The Collector has also ordered a probe in connection with the incident.

District Congress Committee (DCC) president Bindu Krishna said they will legally deal with the incident.
