
Kannur: Following the timely intervention of MP K K Ragesh, the Power Grid Corporation granted Rs 1.25 crore to Pariyaram Government Medical College for setting up special ICU and other equipment required for treating pregnant women who are affected with coronavirus.
People of Kannur and Kasaragod districts have been depending on various hospitals in Mangaluru for treatment for many years. Many of them are unable to continue the treatment as Karnataka blocked the roads in the state border. K K Ragesh said that this action was merciless and a challenge to the inter-state connections.
Following this, more fund has to be raised for the development of Pariyaram medical college to help them. As per the direction of the prime minister, all public sector companies have transferred their CSR fund to 'PM Cares' fund. Now the Rs 1.25 crore was granted after convincing the Power Grid Corporation authorities the importance of enhancing facilities in the hospital during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Earlier, Rs 1 crore was allotted from the MP fund for the improving the facilities in the medical college. Also Rs 1 crore was made available from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Rs 50 lakh from GAIL India Limited. With this, a total of Rs 3.75 crore has been granted for Pariyaram medical college, said Ragesh. He also thanked Power Grid Corporation chairman K Sreekanth.
