Deepak
Perambra: The Crime Branch found a youth who went missing from Meppayur following a search spanning eight months. The missing youth, 36-year-old Deepak was found in Goa. His missing case sparked controversy as authorities handed over the dead body of another youth to Deepak's family by mistaking him for the latter. Only after the cremation it came to light that the body was of Panthirikkara native Irshad, who was allegedly killed after being involved in gold smuggling. A DNA test confirmed the same and following this, a special team under Nadapuram control room DySP Abdul Muneer was formed to find Deepak.
Exasperated over the apparent delay in the police probe, Deepak’s mother Sreelatha filed a habeas corpus petition at the Kerala High Court. Subsequently, the state government handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch.
Deepak was found during the investigation carried out by the district Crime Branch (rural) team with the support of the Goan police and Crime Investigation Department.
The Crime Branch had forwarded Deepak’s photograph to Goan police. The Aadhaar card submitted by Deepak in a lodge in Goa helped the cops to identify him.
The probe team maintained that the mysteries behind his disappearance could be revealed only after interrogating him.
Deepak reportedly went missing in June after he went from his house to Ernakulam reportedly for visa proceedings.
