Paravoor for Piravom? CPI (M) and CPI leaders set for seat sharing discussion

The discussions will focus on the seats to be given to Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) and Kerala Congress, who have joined the LDF. Besides, the Left leaders will discuss the seats that must be shared between CPI (M) and CPI. Discussions on exchanging of seats will also take place in the meeting.

Kozhikode: Leaders of CPI (M) and CPI will hold discussions over sharing of seats for the upcoming Assembly election.

The meeting, scheduled to be held at AKG Centre on Thursday evening will be attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran and Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

Despite their strong opposition in the beginning, CPI is likely to be ready to hand over Kanjirappally seat to Kerala Congress. In return, CPI will receive Poonjar or Changanassery. But if Changanassery is handed over to CPI, Democratic Kerala Congress will not receive any seats in the Assembly polls.

The exchange of seats will be focused on Haripad and Paravoor seats. Paravoor was an LDF fortress until V. D. Satheesan won from the constituency. Ever since the LDF has not won from Paravoor. Even Pannyan Raveendran tasted defeat.

In this context, CPI (M) is gearing up to test their mettle in Paravoor. But the decision will depend on the seat offered in exchange. The seat under consideration is Piravom. However, either Piravom or Perumbavoor will have to be handed over to the Jose K. Mani faction of Kerala Congress. If Jose K. Mani accepts Perumbavoor, CPI would contest in Piravom instead of Paravoor.

The CPI (M) is also gearing up to take Ramesh Chennithala head on. The district wing of CPI (M) is pondering about taking on the Opposition leader at his turf. The CPI (M) is likely to offer Aroor to CPI in return.

Both LJD and Kerala Congress will need seats in the Assembly polls. The CPI (M) has asked all parties in LDF to make sacrifices for this. The CPI’s stance on this would be a key factor in the discussions on Thursday.

The CPI may demand other seats in exchange for seats in which they lost except Eranad, Manjeri and Thiroorangady. If Irikkur seat is handed over to Jose K. Mai, the CPI may demand a seat in Kannur. This is most likely to be Peravoor. CPI had won 19 out of the 27 seats it had contested last time.
