Kollam: In a tragic incident, two people were killed after being hit by a speeding train at Auvaneeswaram railway station here on Friday. The deceased are identified as Kunnicod native M Rahimkutty (59), a member of Vilakkudi panchayat and Auvaneeswaram native Sajeena (40), daughter of Shahul Hameed.

The incident took place around 2.20 pm on Friday. Both were waiting to board a train to Kollam. Amidst this, Rahimkutty’s mobile phone fell into the track and he stepped into the track to take it. During this time, a special train was crossing this track. Noticing the train, Sajeena tried to save the man who was on the track.

Though Rahimkutty tried to climb onto the platform by holding Sajeena’s hands, both fell into the track and were mowed down by the train.

Sajeena reportedly died on the spot. Rahimkutty’s legs were cut off in the accident. He breathed his last at a private hospital in Kottarakkara.
