Kannur: CPI(M) former district secretary, P Jayarajan, said that the police investigation in connection with the Palathayi rape case is proceeding in the right direction. Jayarajan’s response in social media comes at a time when there has been widespread criticism against the police’s attitude towards the case even from within the party.

He said that police department is determined to file the final investigation report on the case by plugging all the potential loopholes. Muslim League, Popular Front and Jamaat-e-Islami are alleging that CPM is trying to save the RSS affiliated accused. Police is taking all the right steps to ensure adequate punishment for the accused. Police stance on the issue is right, he said in his Facebook post.

Jayarajan alleged that Islamic terrorist organisations are campaigning against CPM by forwarding messages in family groups. It is necessary to defend against such campaigns. The prosecution and action council took necessary actions to approach the High Court against the decision of the Sessions court to grant bail for the accused. Investigation is proceeding to ensure that sections under POCSO law can be applied in the case. Medical report also claims that the victims was raped by the accused, he said.
