Palarivattom flyover scam: Vigilance to interrogate Ebrahim Kunju again
Thiruvananthapuram: In the controversial Palarivattom flyover scam, the vigilance will interrogate former PWD minister VK Ebrahim Kunju once again based on the statement of former PWD secretary TO Sooraj. It is reported that vigilance will serve fresh summon notice to Ebrahim Kunju asking him to appear for the interrogation within three days.
Sources close to the vigilance report that the arrest of Ebrahim Kunju is necessary for the probe. In connection with this, the probe team official DySP Ashok Kumar visited vigilance ADGP and IG at Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. The vigilance director also summoned a meeting of the probe team. It is reported that the vigilance has decided to take action on the basis of the evidence.
Vigilance will seek legal advice if Ebrahim Kunju’s arrest is necessary. However, the probe team will be able to arrest the former minister if he refuses to appear after receiving the summon notice. But the probe team needs permission from the court to move for the arrest.
Meanwhile, the government has given complete freedom to the vigilance to handle the case without bothering about the political impact from Pala by polls.
While being taken to the court Sooraj told media that he has done no wrong and he did what was asked by the then former PWD Minister and senior Legislator V.K. Ebrahim Kunju and also the Corporation's Managing Director Mohammed Hanish.
In view of this, vigilance is likely to serve notice to Mohammed Hanish. Higher officials and staff in secretariat who are involved in the flyover construction will be interrogated.
The probe team possess the files related to the construction. Hence, it is learned that the probe team is convinced with the allegations raised by TO Sooraj.
Meanwhile, Muvattupuzha vigilance court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of the four arrested officials, accused of graft in the construction of the Palarivattom flyover, till October 3.
The four arrested officials include -- the project director Sumit Goyal of RDS Projects, former Public Works Department Secretary T.O. Sooraj, Benny Paul who represented the KITCO and M.T. Thankachen from the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested them on charges of corruption.
