Palakkad SDPI worker Subair to be laid to rest on Friday; police hunt for assailants

Palakkad: SDPI worker Subair who was hacked to death at Elappully here on Friday will be laid to rest on Saturday evening. The body will be handed over to relatives after postmortem by noon.

Primary investigation points out political vendetta as reason for the attack. The clash between SDPI and RSS in the region had taken a violent turn when RSS leader Sanjith was killed in November last year. The accused in the Sanjith murder are SDPI workers, police have said.

District crime branch DySP Shamsudheen is leading the investigation in the murder of Subair. The police is yet to confirm the assailants in the crime. They left the state in a car that was arranged for their escape, police presume. Earlier, police had struggled to nab the murderers of Sanjith and BJP had accused foul play in the investigation.

Assailants had arrived at the spot in Sanjith’s car and hit the bike of Subair. However, Sanjith's family claimed that the car was sold to a workshop even before the murder of Sanjith. The assailants escaped in a blue colour WagonR after the crime.

Meanwhile, police have strengthened surveillance in the district to avoid further violence. More police are deployed. They hope to nab the accused soon.

Subair was murdered by a group of unidentified assailants at around 1.30 pm on Friday. He was returning home after Friday prayers along with his father when the car of the attackers hit him. His father Aboobacker, the prime witness to the crime, sustained injuries when he fell off the bike.

SDPI accused RSS of the attack.
