Police examining the spot-Narayanan (74) and Indira (70
Palakkad: An elderly couple from was found dead with burn injuries in their house premises at Perumannur near Pattambi here on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Narayanan (74) and Indira (70). Both were found tied together in a charred state inside a shed where firewood was stored.
The incident came to light when neighbours saw smoke coming out of the shed and they informed the police. Fire and rescue personnel from Pattambi reached the spot and extinguished the fire.
The police officials have recovered a suicide note supposedly written by Narayanan from a shelf inside the house. The suicide note apparently hints that the family was heartbroken over the ailments of Indira.
Reportedly, the note details about how the land, assets, property, bank deposits, gold and other possessions of the family should be distributed and used. It also said where the body should be cremated. Similarly, the water tank in the house was fully drained, supposedly to ensure that the attempt succeeds.
Meanwhile, a team of police officials led by Shoranur DySP and Chalissery CI visited the spot and carried out a detailed examination. Forensic experts also examined the shed and the house. The dead bodies were shifted to Thrissur Medical College for autopsy.
Family members, relatives and neighbours were shocked to know about the incident. Narayanan was a retired health inspector and was active in social circles. It is learnt that the couple lead a peaceful and contented life. The couple has three daughters Jayashree, Sudha and Chithra.
