Special team formed to probe Sreenivasan’s murder; tight security in place at Palakkad

Palakkad: Police formed a special team to probe RSS leader Sreenivasan’s murder in Palakkad. The probe team will be headed by Narcotic Cell DySP Anil Kumar. A high-level meeting chaired by ADGP Vijay Sakhare evaluated the proceedings. According to police, they have received clear information about the culprits.

Police have also identified the owner of one of the bikes the assailants used. The bike is in the name of a woman. The woman had handed over the bike to someone to avail a loan. The investigation is currently focusing on him.

Police received information about the culprits by Saturday evening itself. The accused are from Palakkad city and the nearby Pirayiri panchayat. The killers came in three vehicles. The police received the number of one of the vehicles.

Currently, 10 SDPI activists are in police custody. But there is no confirmation if they are the real culprits. Prohibitory orders has been issued in Palakkad district until April 20. A high-level police team is camping in Palakkad. ADGP Vijay Sakhare is stationed in Palakkad from Sunday morning onwards. About 500 policemen from Coimbatore have also reached Palakkad.

The investigation is also progressing focusing on those staying in lodges and other places. The police have decided to provide security to Sreenivasan's final rites procession. Police have been criticised for failing to prevent the murders which happened in a span of 24 hours. Therefore, the police have been directed to arrest the culprits in both cases and restore peace as soon as possible.
