Palakkad: Those who died in the ambulance accident in Thanissery had faced death hours ago in two separate incidents. The ambulance was carrying them to the District Government Hospital in Palakkad when it met with the fatal accident.
According to sources, the ambulance was carrying 9 people. Eight perosn have died while a child is reportedly undergoing treatment under critical condition. Six persons from Pattambi had gone to Nelliyampathy on a trip on Sunday morning. One of them reportedly the child. Near the destination, their car met with an accident. They received first aid at the Nenmara Primary Health Centre (PHC) and were referred to the Palakkad District Government Hospital for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, an ambulance carrying Nikhil, who was in critical condition after consuming poison, was about to leave for the district hospital. Vaisakh was the bystander for Nikhil. The ambulance driver was Sudheer, a native of Pattambi. Sudheer was on duty as the original driver was on leave for the day. The trio along with the six from the accident were headed to the district hospital.
When the ambulance was at Tanissery between Palakakd and Koduvayur around 2 pm, it collided head-on with a lorry carrying fish. Sudheer, Nikhil and Vaisakh are naties of Nenmara. The six others are natives of Ongallur in Pattambi.
