The NCP leadership is trying to avoid a split. If the party changes front, the Saseendran faction will continue in LDF. But if NCP decides not to change front, the Kappan faction will leave the party.

New Delhi: The central leadership of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is in a state of confusion as Mani C. Kappan and A. K. Saseendran are firm on their stand over the Pala seat.

With the CPI (M) making it clear that Pala seat will not be given to NCP, Mani C. Kappan has taken a stance that the party should join UDF. However, Saseendran is firm on his stance that NCP should remain in LDF even without the Pala seat.

The NCP leadership is trying to avoid a split. If the party changes front, the Saseendran faction will continue in LDF. But if NCP decides not to change front, the Kappan faction will leave the party. In this situation, Praful Patel, who returned from Doha on Friday, will hold discussions with Mani C. Kappan.

The discussions are meant to appease Mani C. Kappan, who along with T. P. Peethambaran master is camping in Delhi for the last three days.

A. K. Saseendran was not invited to the discussions today. But in a last minute development, the Kerala Transport Minister has been invited to Delhi to discuss the situation. If it happens, NCP’s final decision will be announced on Saturday.

Supporters of A. K. Saseendran have informed the NCP national leadership that LDF is likely to retain power in Kerala and that changing front in such a situation will be a mistake. Both factions are trying to ensure the support of district factions.
