Kottayam: Dismissing reports on an ongoing rift between Kerala Congress (M) and CPM over the post of chairman in Pala municipality, AV Russel, CPM district secretary, declared that it is up to his party to decide its candidate.

Earlier, Jose K Mani, chairman of KC (M), opposed CPM's move to name Binu Pulikkakandam as the next chairman of the municipality. KC(M) said they were willing to accept anyone but Binu. The CPM district leadership is unhappy with the move from KC (M).

Binu Pulikkakandam joined CPM from the BJP. Further, he is also facing a case for manhandling a KC (M) worker in the municipality. As a result, KC(M), a part of the LDF, is unhappy with their coalition partner backing Binu in an area in which the party has good strength. Meanwhile, KC (M) also discussed the matter with minister VN Vasavan during a meeting on Sunday.
