Pala bypoll: Nominations can be filed from Wednesday onwards
Kottayam: District Collector P. K. Sudheer Babu informed that nominations for the upcoming Pala by-election can be submitted from Wednesday onwards. The bypoll to Pala assembly constituency, that had fallen vacant after the demise of its MLA K. M. Mani, will be held on September 23.
Nominations can be submitted to the returning officer - the Deputy Collector of Revenue Recovery in the collectorate and to the assistant returning officer – Block Development Officer (BDO) in Lalam block panchayat office. The nomination can be filed between 10 am to 3 pm.
A total of 176 polling stations will be arranged for the bypoll. Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and VVPAT machines will be used for the election. The preliminary inspection of the machines will be held at the EVM Ware House at Ettumanoor Sathram premises on September 3 in the presence of representatives of political parties.
There are 1,77,550 voters in total. All 4320 voters list applications received till August 25 will be considered. Among them, 2499 applications are submitted for adding names in the voters list. Others are for correction, removal and change of polling booth.
Code of conduct
The Model Code of Conduct came into force in the district on August 25 and will continue till September 29. The code of conduct will be applicable for the candidates, political parties and central and state governments.
Expenditure limit Rs 28 lakh
The expenditure limit for a candidate is Rs 28 lakh. There are restrictions for displaying campaign materials and symbols of political parties in public places. The training for the representatives of political parties will be held at Lalam block panchayat office on August 30.
