Kerala Congress (Joseph group) leaders had convened a meeting at 8 pm here on Thursday to decide whether to participate in the campaign activities for UDF candidate Jose Tom. The meeting decided to cooperate with the UDF campaign.
The dispute between Jose K. Mani and P.J. Joseph groups of Kerala Congress (M) had intensified during the announcement of UDF’s Pala bypoll candidate. The dispute resulted in Jose Tom becoming an independent candidate and not being granted the two leaves symbol of Kerala Congress (M). Jose Tom is contesting the polls with pineapple symbol.
Though the dispute within Kerala Congress is yet to be resolved, UDF is claiming that it will not affect the bypoll and that the front will work together to secure victory.
Meanwhile, LDF is aiming to make the best use of the situation in UDF and ensure victory for its candidate Mani C Kappan who had significantly reduced UDF’s lead while losing to K.M. Mani during the last three elections.
