Kochi: In a remarkable achievement, Padma Lakshmi became Kerala’s first transgender lawyer as she enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of the state the other day.

Padma Lakshmi is a graduate from Government Law College, Ernakulam. She was one among 1,528 law graduates who were awarded the Bar enrolment certificate here on Sunday.

Taking to social media, Kerala Industries Minister P Rajeev lauded Padma Lakshmi and wrote, “Becoming the first is always a tough feat in history. There are no predecessors on the way to the goal. There will be numerous obstacles. There will be many to silence and discourage. Surviving all this, Padma Lakshmi has written her name in the legal history.”

Furthermore, the minister expressed hope that Padma’s achievement shall inspire more transgenders to take up the profession of law and wished her a successful career.
