Kozhikode: Kozhikode's Valiyangadi is all set to have a makeover with night food street, the first of its kind in Kerala. The project will be launched as promoting Kerala tourism.
The food streets aim to attract tourists to the traditional culinary culture of Malabar. Tourism minister P A Mohammed Riyas announced that the food streets will be live from May 2022 onwards.
Addressing the media, the minister informed that though night street is a long-run and permanent project, the other vendors will not be affected at any cost. Along with food, music will also elevate the ambience of the night street. As per the plan, the concert and street will open by 7 pm and wind up by 12 am. The time has not been fixed yet.
After Kozhikode, food streets will be started in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. For the preparation of the master plan and further discussions, a coordinating committee headed by Dr N Tej Lohit Reddy will be formed.
Meetings were held with the Hotel and Restaurant Associations, traders and workers of ‘Valiyangadi’ here. On Wednesday, a meeting was held with the Corporation Mayor and others. Funds from the Department of Tourism are being used. But the project will be implemented jointly by the corporation and the tourism department.
Valiyangadi was chosen as a place close to Kozhikode beach. There will be all the facilities for people to go and eat with their family. Facilities will be made as assuring service to customers even during heavy rains.
