Kochi: In a surprising move, the CPM state conference has welcomed back former Kannur district secretary P Sasi into the CPM state committee. The senior leader from Kannur who was expelled from the party on charges of misconduct has made a return to the state committee after a hiatus of 11 years. Earlier, he was reinstated to the party in 2018 after a court dismissed a case against him.

The case was registered against Sasi in 2011 when he was serving as CPM Kannur district secretary. Following the complaint, he was expelled from the party. The decision was made despite him being a central figure of CPM in the Kannur district.

During his time outside politics, he practised as a lawyer. However, he returned to politics and Kannur District Committee in March 2019 after the court acquitted him in the case.

Following the expulsion of P Sasi, P Jayarajan became the Kannur district secretary. Currently, MV Jayarajan serves in the post.

Sasi expressed his desire to return to the party after the court acquitted him. In July 2018, he was selected to the Branch Committee and later in the Area Committee. He was also the private secretary to former chief minister EK Nayanar.
