P.J. Joseph says Pala debacle was invited; holds Jose K Mani responsible
Kottayam: Jose K Mani is responsible if the lack of two leaves symbol led to UDF’s debacle in Pala assembly bypoll, Kerala Congress (M) leader P.J. Joseph said on Saturday. He was addressing a press conference here.
“I am standing firm by my earlier statements. The allegation that my decision not to grant the two leaves symbol led to the defeat is wrong. I would have granted the symbol had they requested for it according to the party bylaw,” Joseph added.
The Pala defeat was invited. When Teeka Ram Meena said that I had the authority to grant the election symbol, P. K. Kunhalikutty asked me if I was going to grant it. I told him that I would grant the two leaves symbol if they send a request letter addressed to P.J. Joseph, Working Chairman in charge of Chairman.
However, they informed me through Ramesh Chennithala that they were not ready to send the letter. They later sent a letter in the last minute. The deadline was 3 pm and they sent the letter by email at 2.29 pm, Joseph explained.
“This debacle was invited. If they say that they could have won if they contested under the two leaves symbol, I will say that they invited the defeat by not seeking the symbol. They could have received the symbol had they asked the Working Chairman in charge of Chairman. Hence Jose K Mani is solely responsible for the defeat in Pala,” Joseph added.
