Thiruvananthapuram: P C Vishnunath will be the UDF candidate for the speaker’s post. The election to the speaker’s post will be held on Tuesday. M B Rajesh is the Left candidate. The filing of nomination papers can be done till Monday afternoon. Vishnunath is Kundara MLA.

The first session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly began here on Monday, under strict COVID-19 protocols. The swearing-in of the new MLAs of the 140-member House commenced. The MLAs are taking oath before the pro tem speaker MLA P T A Rahim. Only the oath-taking will take place on the first day of the Assembly session.

The Assembly will not be convened on May 26 and May 27. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will address the Assembly with his customary policy address on May 28. On June 4, finance minister K N Balagopal will present the revised budget. Though the Assembly session was planned for 14 days till June 14, there is an element of uncertainty due to the covid situation.
