P. C. George MLA issues landslide warning in Poonjar; KSDMA denies it
Kottayam: Poonjar MLA P. C. George has asked residents of three panchayats in his constituency to relocate owing to the threat of landslides.
P. C. George issued a warning seeking residents of hilly areas in Poonjar Thekkekara, Teekoy and Koottickal panchayats to relocate to a safer areas during night as there was a chance of landslides till August 15.
An audio message in the MLAs voice is doing rounds in WhatsApp and other social media platforms. Upon contacting, P. C. George mathrubhumi.com that it was indeed his voice. The MLA also claimed that he received a warning from Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) in this regard.
However, KSDMA officials told mathrubhumi.com that they had not issued warning to the specific areas mentioned by the MLA. KSDMA also assured that there was no need to panic.
