Thiruvananthapuram: PWD Minister P A Mohammed Riyas made an unannounced visit to a PWD rest house here to verify whether the interiors and premises are properly managed. The surprise visit comes in the wake of the minister’s announcement that PWD rest houses in Kerala will be made available for the public soon. Notably, an online booking facility for the public will start on November 1.

During the visit, the minister visited rooms, kitchen and premises. He expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the way things are managed. Riyas has directed the building chief engineer to take stern action against the official concerned who failed in complying with his duties.

“We have announced that online booking for the public will start by tomorrow. As a prerequisite, we had given special directions to ensure hygiene. However, it seems they were not met here. This non-compliance cannot be entertained. I have ordered the Chief Engineer (CE) to take action against the official concerned. If somebody thinks things will go as the usual course here, they are mistaken. Such officials will not be retained in the service,” Riyas told media persons after the visit.
