Thrissur: A team led by Kodungallur DySP here on Monday foiled the attempt to smuggle foreign liquor and took two men into custody. The accused are identified as Kollam native Saji(51) and Thiruvananthapuram native Krishna Prakash(23).

The team intervened after receiving a tip-off that a team is trying to smuggle liquor from Mahe, eyeing Onam sales in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam.

The duo tried to smuggle liquor in a milk van but was nabbed by the officials when they reached Chettuva at dawn. Interestingly, 3,582 litres of liquor were in 3,600 bottles.

"We were inspecting suspicious vehicles based on a tip-off. We found IMFL of various brands worth around Rs 50 lakh. It seems like the duo were planning to sell this in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam regions," police told.

The officials are enquiring about other individuals who have given financial assistance to the accused.
