Over 200 defects on rail tracks; trains to slow down
Thiruvananthapuram: The engineering wing of the Railways has warned about more damage to rail tracks in Kerala, in the wake of the train derailment at Karukutty.
Section engineers have asked the respective station masters to rectify the defects immediately and to slow down trains while they pass through defective tracks.
The direction is to slow down trains to 30kmph while passing though tracks with defects. This will result in train services getting delayed upto three hours. With the Onam holidays round the corner, the new move will be blow to passengers.
Meanwhile, the South Railway Engineers Association said that it had reported to the Area Manager earlier that there were defects at 202 spots on the rail track from Thiruvananthapuram to Shoranur. The association alleged that the engineering wing was made scapegoat in the Karukutty incident. The Permanent Way Inspector was suspended in connection with the derailment.
