Vadakara: The organic fertilizer distributed through Kozhikode’s Vadakara municipality as part of a scheme to promote organic farming has been found with ‘rexine and rubber like’ reamains in it. The presence of rexine was found in the two sacks received by a team of farmers in which Preman from Nalom Vayal region is also a member.
The incident came to light when the team tried to apply the fertilizer to crops. Suspecting adulteration, they tried burning a small portion of it when they detected the smell of burning rubber. They took another portion and washed it in water. The presence of rexine and rubber-like remains were seen. The incident was reported to the ward councilor who inturn informed the matter to agricultural officer.
The agriculture officer visited the place and collected samples of the fertilizer from Preman’s team. While commenting over the matter, the company which provided the manure maintains that there is chance of leather meal fertilizer getting mixed with it. However, farmers claim that it looked like rubber and rexine.
Agriculural officer informed that matter will be probed and further procedures will be taken.
As per the scheme a five-member team of farmers are eligible for seeds and 100kg manure.
