Orange Alert in Kakki dam; Malampuzha dam to be opened on Wednesday
Kozhikode: In the wake of heavy rains lashing the state, water-levels at various dams in the state are continuously rising. Code Orange has been declared at Kakki dam in Pathanamthitta after it crossed the 980 metre against its maximum capacity of 981.46 metre. Red Alert will be issued at water-level 980.50 meter. KSEB has informed that after the alert, shutters will be opened.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has informed that the shutters of the Malampuzha dam will be opened on Wednesday between 11 am and 12 pm.
Traffic regulations have been put in place through Athirappilly after the water flow here intensified. The tourist spots at Athirappilly and Vazhachal have been closed in the wake of heavy rainfall.
In Kozhikode, authorities have informed that the shutters of Kakkayam dam will be opened if the water-level here rise. At present the water-level here is just 0.5 feet less than its full capacity. Even though the rains have subsided, if water-level rises, the shutters will have to be opened, said executive engineer.
