Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan said that the no confidence motion against him was built on allegations and rumors.
“The Opposition is targeting me as they are unable to slam the government,” the speaker alleged while responding to the adjournment motion.
I am happy and proud to have discussed such a motion. But the allegations levelled by the Opposition are based on rumors not facts. Ramesh Chennithala is acting like a KSU leader. His allegations are baseless, the Speaker said.
The Speaker responded to each and every allegation levelled against him. “The Opposition is attacking the Speaker as they are unable to slam the government. The motion introduced by M. Ummer will boomerang on them. I don’t have time to respond to allegations based on news reports. They will go down in history as the Opposition that introduced allegations based on rumors. There was no corruption over construction in the Assembly building. I will step down if the allegations are proved.
All constructions regarding the Assembly were undertaken by following all norms, Sreeramakrishnan said. The Speaker also explained about the committees constituted in connection with the construction project.
Now, the Opposition is only trying to find faults with the upgradation of the lounge, the Speaker said and justified giving the construction contract to the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society (ULCCS).
Sreeramakrishnan read out the construction contracts handed over without inviting tenders during the previous government. The Speaker also read letters from various MLAs asking the previous government to give construction contracts to ULCCS without inviting tenders.
