Opposition protests over Speaker intervening when questions were asked
Thiruvananthapuram: The Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala protested against the stand taken by the Speaker in Kerala Assembly. Chennithala was provoked when the Speaker intervened while he was asking a question. It is the right of the members of the House to raise questions and why was the Speaker getting tensed before a question, he asked?.
The dispute started when the Speaker intervened while Ramesh Chennithala was asking about the fuel price hike to finance minister Thomas Isaac. Chennithala said that the Speaker also intervened when UDF MLA N. A. Nellikkunnu was speaking and that the Speaker seems to be intolerant to the questions of the opposition. He also alleged that the Speaker is questioning the right of an MLA. Later he stopped asking the question and returned to his seat.
He agreed to continue his talk only after repeated requests from the Speaker that he had intervened because the question was prolonged. To the question regarding further reduction of the fuel tax, Finance minister Thomas Isaac responded that the government has already done everything it could do in connection with the fuel price hike.
