Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition parties organised protest marches across Kerala demanding the resignation of Higher Education Minister KT Jaleel.
The protests resulted in clashes with the police in many places. Organisations including MSF and Manila Morcha marched towards the secretariat demanding Jaleel’s resignation.
Police used water cannons against the MSF march. Following this, the Mahila Morcha activists reached the secretariat. They tried to topple the barricades placed in front of the secretariat.
Protests demanding the minister’s resignation started as soon as the news about KT Jaleel's interrogation by ED came out. On Saturday, these protest marches had led to clashes in many places. Although the protests were not intense on Sunday, they regained momentum on Monday after the minister returned to his official residence.
Police used water cannons against the BJP activists in Thrissur. In Malappuram, police resorted to lathi-charge fired grenades against MSF activists. In Mattannur, water cannon and lathi charge were used against the Youth Congress activists who demanded the resignation of EP Jayarajan. The MSF march in Kozhikode also resulted in violence.
