Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF and BJP feel that investigations by central agencies will put more trouble for the LDF government in the coming days.

One reason is that one personal staff of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who has been present in the previous Left governments, is under the scanner of the central probe agencies. The Opposition parties are awaiting the second wicket from the CM’s office.

BJP and Congress leaders call this personal staff as the man who strengthened the undercurrents by aiding M. Sivasankar in contracts and consultancies. The Enforcement Directorate, which is searching for the core of the financial transactions, has information in this regard. However, inability to define the involvement of this personal staff in matters that are under investigation is preventing the officials from questioning him.

The owner of the iPhone given by Unitac is yet to be identified. The iPhone in question is worth over Rs 1 lakh and is more expensive than the one given to Sivasankar. The BJP and Congress leaders argue that revealing the ‘VIP’, who is more important than Sivasankar, will increase the heartbeat of both the government and CPI (M).

The LDF is well aware that the crisis it is facing now cannot be overcome just by pointing out the politics of the investigation agencies. The criticisms raised in the investigation reports are the reason behind this.

The CPI (M) has been able to shield the government from the allegations so far. But central agencies trapping the son of the party’s state secretary has fractured its self belief. As the CPI (M) has no clue in which direction the investigation will move ahead, it has taken a cautious approach in giving justifications.

At present, the CPI (M) is defending itself by distancing itself from both Bineesh Kodieyeri and Sivasankar. But if another member of the CM’s office gets involved in the investigation, the CPI (M) political defence will also weaken.
