Opposition MLAs during their protest march to the Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition MLAs, led by Congress leader VD Satheesan, protested against the tax hike in the state by walking to the Assembly on Thursday. The opposition’s protest is following finance minister KN Balagopal’s statement in the Assembly on Wednesday that there would not be any change in the hiked taxes, including cess on petrol and diesel.

Hitting out at the government, Satheesan said that when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was the party secretary, he had told people to protest by not paying taxes. He forgot all that when he became the chief minister.

The opposition leader further said that the government is showing arrogance in returning to power. The finance minister is mocking the opposition because he does not have any words to defend the move, Satheesan added. He also claimed that the government is disrespecting people.
