Opposition leader visits Koottickal; demands explanation over delay in rescue operation
Koottickal: Opposition leader VD Satheesan visited Koottickal where heavy rain triggered a landslide. Addressing the reporters here on Sunday, VD Satheesan criticised the delay occurred in launching rescue operations at the landslide-hit place.
“The landslide hit Koottickal around 10 am on Saturday. Though the search operations are a herculean task, skipping the rescue operations on Saturday is a big mistake. The search operations were started only on Sunday morning,” said the opposition leader.
He also sought an explanation from the authority over failure to conduct search operations during the daytime on Saturday.
“Only a former panchayat member rushed to the spot with a JCB. Neither the police nor the taluk officials arrived at Koottickal on Saturday. The authorities must give an explanation into this lapses,” demanded Satheesan.
He also pointed out that the frequent landslides in the state is a serious matter of concern.
