Opposition leader Chennithala alleges KIAL extends unlawful aid to CPM
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday alleged that Kannur International Airport Limited has extended unlawful aid to CPM. The government has taken stance not to conduct auditing at KIAL for now to hide this illegal activity, he said at a press conference here.
KIAL MD has extended funds to CPM mouthpiece Deshabhimani, for election campaigns of then MLA E P Jayarajan after the announcement of 2015 elections and for the advertisement of Navakerala Yatra conducted by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Some reports also indicate that funds were given for advertising the swearing-in ceremony of LDF government, Chennithala added.
The opposition leader also blamed the state government for not cancelling auditing approval at KIIFB.
“It was in 1999, UDF government had formed KIIFB. Then CAG was given permission for audit. But in 2010 and 2016, with the amendments brought by LDF governments, the audit permission for CAG was cancelled. Now, the KIIFB audit limit is restricted. Government disapproved the permission by putting forward a very strange argument that investors might misunderstand if CAG conducts audit,” Chennithala said.
