Thiruvananthapuram: MLA James Mathew said that the Opposition was considering the CAG as an agency like NIA or ED, but the CAG’s duty is not similar to that of a detective. Sunil Raj is not a person who was assigned to find out the source of an unsolved crime, James Mathew added.

James Mathew stated that the government and the Finance Department took this stand with clear understanding of what Paravoor native Sunil Raj did. However, MLA V D Satheeshan raised objection against mentioning Paravoor, and James Mathew withdrew the statement.

MLA Veena George said that the Opposition’s statements against the resolution presented by the Chief Minister were strange. She asked what was the basis of the remarks made in the CAG report. She also said that the Opposition should notice what is being opposed and why. This is an encroachment into the state's authority. It is the political strategy of BJP to use CAG as a tool to realise their hidden agendas, she alleged.

Shamseer said that it was the CAG that encroached into the powers of the Assembly. He also asked if they should remain silent even after CAG crossed the limits. Should we reveal who misused the constitutional bodies completely. The Centre is using CAG for political games and why is the UDF supporting them, he further asked.
