Sree Narayana Guru
Kollam: After receiving severe flak for issues including absence of Sree Narayana Guru’s portrait in the first logo released for Sree Narayana Guru Open University, an expert committee constituted for examining the matter has come up with a new logo for the academic institution.
The expert committee chaired by filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has submitted the newly selected logo before the university administration in a concealed cover. The new logo imbibes Guru’s portrait and once approved by the syndicate meeting, the logo can be released.
The logo features ‘Vidyakondu Prabudharakuka’, the quote attributed to Guru which in English translates to ‘Enlightenment through education’. Notably, the first logo released had translated the quote as ‘Liberation through education’.
Evoked by the controversy, the first logo released was withheld on January 11. After that, an expert committee was constituted for examining the issues flagged.
