Kochi: The secretary of Kochi corporation on Friday assured the High Court that all open drains and pits in the city would either be slabbed or barricaded and kept away from danger within 2 weeks.
Corporation secretary Babu Abdukl Khader was summoned by the court following the tragic incident where a three-year-old boy fell into an uncovered drain in Panampilly Nagar on Thursday.
On the basis of amici curiae report, Justice Devan Ramachandran intervened into the matter and summoned Khader, who later apologised for the issue.
The court, which expressed shock over the incident, opined that this is not only the case in Kochi city but also across Kerala.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on December 2.
