Alex V Chandy, Oommen Chandy
Kottayam: Alex V Chandy, brother of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday reiterated his doubts about the type of treatment given to the latter.
Alex alleged that the veteran Congress leader has been administered Ayurvedic medicine and turmeric solution among others. He urged the state government to form a medical board for the treatment of ex-CM.
Alex V Chandy handed over a letter to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking to ensure the expert treatment of Oommen Chandy. His health is deteriorating and being the former CM, the state government has the responsibility to provide treatment for Oommen Chandy, the letter read. The letter countersigned by 41 others was also forwarded to the Minister for Health Veena George, and speaker AN Shamseer.
According to Alex, some people close to Oommen are denying the latter treatment by maintaining that he has no illness. Alex noted that Congress leader was in the beginning stages of cancer. He named Oommen's wife, youngest son and eldest daughter as those denying treatment.
Alex also said many approached him to step back from sending the letter sent to the chief minister. However, the letter was not sent seeking action against anybody to ensure proper treatment for Oommen, he added.
Oommen Chandy himself came out on Sunday to state that the family and party have been providing him with the best treatment. Oommen Chandy’s son Chandy Oommen shared a video of the veteran Congress leader on Facebook.
