Only tatkal train tickets available for Onam
Palakkad: With Onam round the corner, only tatkal tickets are available in long distance trains. Reservations for all the trains were completed several weeks ago.
The daily train running between Kannur and Yeswanthpur has 304 reserved births. Until Uthradam (September 10), the day before Thiruvonam, these births are completely booked and over 100 are in the waiting list.
Kannur-Yeswanthpur Express, Kanyakumari-Bengaluru Island Express and Ernakulam Bengaluru day train, which passengers across Kerala travelling in Bengaluru direction depend on, have reservation available only after September 17.
For return trips, trains including Bengaluru-Kochuveli trains have reservations available only after September 17. Those planning to travel to Chennai and back also have reservations available only after September 17.
Meanwhile, a limited number of tatkal tickets at higher rates will be available in these trains before they start their journey.
Tatkal tickets for AC coaches will be available from 10 in the morning while sleeper tickets will be available from 11 am. Those booking these tickets online will have to pay Rs 30 for AC and Rs 15 for sleeper as service charge.
Considering the rush of passengers, the railways are operating a special train (Number 06557) from Banswadi to Kochuveli on Friday and Monday (September 6 and 9). The train will reach Kochuveli the following morning.
The train starts at 3.40 in the evening and will reach Palakkad at 11. 47 pm. The train will reach Kochuveli at 6.50 am on Saturday and Tuesday.
On September 7 and 10, a special train will be operated between Kochuveli and Krishnarajapuram. The train will start from Kochuveli at 12.50 am and will reach Krishnarajapuram at 4 am the following morning.
