Only KK Shailaja likely to get 2nd term in cabinet
Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM is mulling a fresh cabinet with all new faces except health minister K K Shailaja. After the matter is finalised by the politburo members, the party state secretariat will discuss it further. The secretariat meeting convened on Tuesday did not hold talks on this.
Apart from the chief minister, only Shailaja is likely to get a second term in the cabinet. If new faces are given prominence, state secretariat members MM Mani, TP Ramakrishnan, state committee members AC Moideen and Kadakampally Surendran are unlikely to be included in the cabinet.
It is not clear if the condition is applicable for KT Jaleel, who contested as Left Independant candidate. He is likely to be considered for Speaker post, if not for minister post. Kadakampally Surendran also is being considered for Speaker position.
Along with Shailaja, central committee members MV Govindan, K Radhakrishnan, state secretariat members K N Balagopal and P Rajeev have more chances of becoming ministers. Apart from them, V N Vasavan, Veena George, V Sivankutty, Saji Cherian and PP Chitharanjan may be considered. The influence in fisheries sector gives Chitharanjan an upper hand.
K T Jaleel is in the probable list as Muslim representation in the cabinet is important. The chief minister's trust on him also is a key factor. Either Jaleel or V Abdurahman, who won from Tanur as Left Independent candidate, have chances of being inducted in the cabinet.
The departments may be divided. K K Shailaja will be given health with additional charges. Either P Rajeev or K N Balagopal will get finance and the other one will be given PWD. K Radhakrishnan will get welfare of backward classes and some other key section.
Devaswom and cooperation are likely to be split into two departments under two ministers. Sivankutty is more likely to get Devaswom and labour charges and Vasavan may be given cooperation and excise. MB Rajesh and Veena George are considered for education department.
