Thiruvananthapuram: Former IT secretary M. Sivasankar has reiterated his statement given to the Customs department in front of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Sivasankar has told the NIA that he only had friendship with Swapna Suresh and Sarith, the two accused in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case.
Sivasankar stated that he had no role in the gold smuggling case and that he did not know the other accused in the case. Sivasankar denied Sarith’s statement that the former IT secretary was aware of the smuggling.
Sivasankar gave these statements during the 5-hour long interrogation by NIA the other day.
The NIA questioned Sivasankar after inspecting his statements given to the Customs department. It is learned that the NIA probe team will decide whether to question Sivasankar again after collecting more evidence in the case.
The NIA is investigating if the accused had visited Sivasankar at his office before the gold was seized. The NIA will also examine CCTV footage from the Secretariat. The NIA has requested CCTV footage from the secretariat from July 1 to 12.
