Only 18 Nipah deaths in Kerala: K K Shailaja
Kozhikode: Rejecting the international reports that 21 persons had fallen victim to the deadly Nipah virus in Kerala, state health minister K K Shailaja said that only 18 deaths were confirmed.
She added that the remaining can only be considered as suspected cases. The minister was responding to the international reports published recently.
“18 cases were tested positive for Nipah in the lab. The virus was confirmed following the death of Salih. Over 300 samples were sent to the virology lab for tests. The five cases that showed symptoms could have been Nipah, but they were not confirmed. We can only confirm the suspected cases as per lab test reports,” Shailaja said.
